Former Mayor of Belmopan, Khalid Belisle is taking up his new position as UDP Senator in the National Assembly.
As had been indicated by Leader of the Opposition, Honorable Patrick Faber when he initially named the party’s three senators for the Thirteenth National Assembly, Senator Aldo Salazar would have been holding the seat temporarily until Belisle completed his duties as Mayor.
The transition is now being made as the Opposition Leader wrote the Governor General on Thursday, May 20 indicating, “In accordance with Section 64(2) (e) of the Belize Constitution, I hereby write to advise Your Excellency to declare the seat of Senator Aldo Salazar vacant. In accordance with Section 61 (4) (b) of the Belize Constitution, I hereby nominate Mr. Khalid Belisle to fill the seat that will be left vacant by Senator Aldo Salazar.”
In announcing the transition, Hon. Patrick Faber remarked, “I once again take the opportunity to thank Senator Aldo Salazar for his outstanding work as Senator and congratulate the incoming Senator Khalid Belisle.”
