The Mesop Guardian Bombers Basketball Team, the 2005 Interoffice Basketball League champion, will participate in the 2009 Marcel Cardona Basketball Championship, which is played every Friday and Saturday nights at the Multi-Purpose Complex in Orange Walk Town. Mesop Guardian Bombers will use this competition as a warm up for the up-coming 2009 Interoffice Basketball Competition scheduled to commence in March.
This year’s competition is featuring a total 15 teams with eight teams participating in the senior competition and seven teams in the junior competition. The competition will utilize a Double Round Robin format, which will include a semi-finals and a championship round.
On Friday February 20, 2009, in the junior competition, Union Town Soul Jahs defeated Centaur Cable Boyz by the score of 62-60. The top scorer for Union Town Soul Jahs was Randy Usher with 32 points, and the top scorer for Centaur Cable Boyz was Leroy Loriano also with 32 points.
In the senior game, Lord’s Bank Bullet defeated New Luks Kings by the score of 63-60. The top scorer for Lord’s Bank Bullet was Alfred Bainton with 12 points, while the top scorer for New Luks Kings was Ira Lennon with 24 points.
The competition will continue this Friday night February 27, 2009, at the Orange Walk Multi-Purpose Complex. In the Junior competition game, Under Dogs will go up against Small Jet Ballers, and in the senior game it will be Thru’ D Hole vs. On One Ballers. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
