The Smith family from the Village of Hattieville is facing the type of grief that no family should have to. One of their loved ones, 26-year-old Richard Smith, was shot and killed while he was out socializing with companions.
Shakira Smith, Richard’s sister, says that there is a video in which her brother used his last breath to identify who had shot him. Police say that at around 6:30 p.m. on Friday, November 29th, 2019, they went to the Farmers Site area of the village, to respond to reports of a shooting. When they arrived on the Farmers Site Road, they found Smith suffering from multiple gunshot injuries. They tried to rush him to the KHMH for medical treatment, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
What investigators have been able to establish so far is that Smith and another man were socializing near the Dollar Kite Shop. He then left to go home, and he chose a shortcut behind the nearby Rabbit Restaurant. Persons in the area heard the sound of gunshots. When they went to find out what happened, they found Smith injured. That’s when they called the police.
It is unclear at this time why Smith was killed, but his sister, Shakira Smith, believes that his killer was someone he knew, and who waylaid him in that shortcut area.
Smith told the press, “Right now we are confused. We are hurt because my brother might be anything and we are not saying my brother was innocent, because he is not, but my brother is not a dog.”
Reports to the press are that Smith recently moved out of his family’s home, and he was living a short distance away with his girlfriend and his child. His sister, Shakira, freely acknowledged to the press that he dabbled a bit in the sale of marijuana, which as readers are aware, can be a very risky business. It is unclear at this time if his marijuana connections played any role in his killing.
Smith reportedly knew that he had dangerous enemies, and according to his sister, he discussed the possibility with several family members that he could be hurt, or worse. After being shot, persons who had sought to offer him aid recorded video in which in his last breaths, Smith may have identified his shooter.
