After spending almost seven years in jail, on Monday, October 21, 2019, 26-year-old Stephan Jenkins pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter of 54-year old Dennis Williams. Williams was shot and killed at his workplace, Three Stars Quality Chicken, on November 8, 2012. At the time, Williams was at work when four men attempted to rob the business. Williams fought with one of the armed robbers but was fatally shot. Only two men, Jenkins and Ashton Thompson, were apprehended. Police also recovered a 9mm pistol loaded with three live rounds of ammunition, believed to be the murder weapon.
Justice of the Supreme Court, Marilyn Williams, sentenced Jenkins to seventeen years in jail. In November of 2018, the case against Jenkins and Thompson was called up. While Jenkins has since pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter, Thompson has pleaded not guilty to murder and remains on remand awaiting trial.
In Jenkins’s case, there was no mitigation plea and no victim impact assessment provided in court. On trial, he was represented by attorney Adler Waight of Barrow and Williams Law Firm.
