Suga Boys Juventus wins first game in BPFL Series

Charlie Slusher (Suga Boys Juventus)The Belize Premier Football League championship games continued over the last week with a number of games across the country.

In the North Zone, three games were played on Sunday April 26. In game one, at Ambergris Stadium, the visiting Suga Boys Juventus picked up its first win of the 2009 campaign when it defeated the home team San Pedro Dolphins by the score of 2-0.

The visiting Suga Boys Juventus got on the scoreboard first when Oliver Hendericks scored the 1st goal of the game in the 38th minute of play via a penalty kick. The first half of the game ended in favour of the visiting Suga Boys Juventus.

The second and final goal of the game was scored in the 82nd minute of play via an own goal by Kaedell Middleton that gave Suga Boys Juventus the victory.

The Juventus defence which included the veteran goalie Charlie Slusher did not concede any goals to the San Pedro Dolphins.

At the Ricalde Stadium in Corozal Town, San Pedro Bullsharks and Nizhee Corozal played to a 1-1 draw. Olvin Serano scored the 1st goal of the game in the 64th minute of play to give the visiting San Pedro Bullsharks a temporary lead.

In the closing minutes of the 2nd half of the game, Antonio Castillo scored the equalizing goal for the home team Nizhee Corozal in the 90th minute of play via a penalty kick.

At the MCC Grounds, FC Belize and the Belize Defence Force played to a 0-0 draw.

In the South Zone, at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga, Wagiya defeated llagulei by the score of 1-0. Jerome Archer scored the only goal of the game in the 57th minute of play to give Wagiya the big victory.

On Saturday April 25, two games were played in the South Zone, at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium; Georgetown Ibayani defeated Hankook Verdes by the score of 1-0. Alexander Peters scored the only goal of the game in the 85th minute of play.

At the Toledo Union Field in Punta Gorda Town, Scorpions defeated Tafari by the score of 4-0. Gilmore Palacio scored the 1st goal of the game in the 24th minute of play; Hilberto Muschamp scored the 2nd goal in the 36th minute of play, while Arnold Torres scored the 3rd and 4th goals in the 53rd and 58th minutes of play respectively.

On Thursday April 23, in the North Zone, at the MCC Grounds, the Belize Defence Force defeated San Pedro Dolphins by the score of 1-0. Isidoro Lara scored the only goal of the game in the 37th minute of play to give his team the victory.

At the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk Town, Nizhee Corozal defeated Suga Boys Juventus by the score of 5-1. Emmette Vernon scored three goals for his team in the 14th minute of play via a penalty kick, 62nd and 67th minute of play, while Victor Morales scored in the 33rd minute of play and Cesario Rosales scored in the 47th minute of play for Nizhee Corozal.

Clifton West scored the only goal of the game in the 84th minute of play via a penalty kick for Suga Boys Juventus.

In the South Zone, at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga Town, Hankook Verdes defeated Wagiya by the score of 2-0. Amin August scored both goals for the Hankook Verdes team in the 3rd and 40th minutes respectively.

Meanwhile, at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village, llagulei defeated Scorpions by the score of 2-0. Karim Peters scored the 1st goal of the game in the 25th minute of play and Arlon Castley scored the 2nd goal in the 36th minute of play to give llagulei the victory.
