On Wednesday September 16, Minister of Education Hon. Patrick Faber and Toledo East Area Representative Hon. Peter Eden Martinez opened the doors of the Corazon Technical High School to 67 first form students. The new high school is located in the village of Corazon Creek in the Toledo East Area Division.

It was established to address the educational needs of students in the remote villages of Toledo.  Prior to Corazon Technical High School, students in villages like Jalacte began their journey to school early in the morning and they would return home late at night.  Their only options were the Toledo

Community College in Punta Gorda or the Julian Cho Technical High School which is located in the Toledo West Division.

In his address at the opening, Hon. Peter Eden Martinez noted that with the opening of Corazon, “the tedious means to get an education is going to be altered significantly because the students get an opportunity to come to school earlier and to go back home earlier.”
For Education Minister Patrick Faber, it is all about greater access to education and more space for students.  He noted that Corazon Technical High’s 67 students will qualify for his Ministry’s $300 subsidy to deserving students.
