Dignitaries visited the Belize Agriculture Research Station at Central FarmAs the country celebrated its 28th Anniversary of Independence Belize was honoured to receive many foreign dignitaries who came to join us in celebration for events scheduled in the September festivities both official and unofficial.  They were received and hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.  The highlights of the events included participation in the annual diplomatic briefing given by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The foreign dignitaries received a comprehensive overview of the policies and work carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs including an overview of the internal economic, political and social situation of the country.

The dignitaries visited the Belize Agriculture Research Station in Central Farm, Cayo

District, where they observed the excellent research work carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture in coordination with the Taiwan Technical Mission, CARDI and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).  They had the opportunity of visiting the Maya Temples of Xunantunich and the island of St. George’s Caye where they were given the chance to bask in the warm and pristine waters of the Caribbean Sea.

Belize received expressions of well wishes from many countries across the globe on the celebration of our 28th year of independence.  The visiting diplomats witnessed a show of Belizean pride and joy as the flag was hoisted at the Memorial Park upon the dawn of the 21st day of September.  This was after being hosted by H.E. the Governor General, Sir Colville Young at his annual reception.  Their visit culminated in Belmopan with the official ceremonies commemorating our independence.

Belize is grateful to all of those international partners and friends of Belize for taking the time out to express their good faith and well wishes to our nation.  We will continue striving to keep building our image as a friendly and hospitable nation at peace with ourselves and with the rest of the world.
