Musa’s Judicial Review

Former Prime Minister Said Musa was charged for theft in Belmopan Magistrate’s Court and was committed to stand trial; however, he’s asked for judicial review and that began in the Supreme Court before Chief Justice Abdulai Conteh on Monday April 27.

The matter started on Monday with Musa’s attorney’s taking the entire first day to present their case and it continued on Tuesday with the prosecution rebutting those arguments. Musa’s defence argued that Magistrate Earl Jones erred in law when he committed the matter to the Supreme Court; wrongly assumed jurisdiction in the case; allowed inadmissible evidence; and acted inappropriately in committing Musa to stand trial and discharging Fonseca of the same charge while the same evidence was presented against both men.

The DPP replied to the points and wrapped up her arguments on Tuesday. The matter will continue on Wednesday with the CJ giving his decision sometime after that.
