On Sunday March 13, 2011, the 4th and final stage of the Weekend Warriors Cycling Club Masters Tour came to an end. According to Santino Castillo, the Weekend Warriors races are by points and not by time. This final stage was from Rockville to Busman Arnold for a total distance of 40 miles, but in very hilly terrain for these older men of the sport.
Santino Castillo started the race in the YELLOW JERSEY, which he won from the first Stage of the tour but only held a 6 point lead going into the last leg of the tour. However, he won two portions of the tour where he received 3 points each and then finished 2nd in the other for 2 more points for a total of 8 points in the final stage.
The runner up in this tour was Shaun Howard of Team Cleanmaster, and Amir Gonzalez of Truckers sitting in 3rd place went down the road at Camalote with Ernest Thurton of Santino’s in tow. Ernest Danga Thurton won the stage with Sean Howard and Amir Gonzalez getting 2nd, and 3rd respectively.
Andrew “Pappa” Brown of Fabrigas then distanced himself from his group at Busman to secure 4th place with Derrick Smith of Santino’s taking 5th place and Santino Castillo taking 6th. However, this was enough to declare him the Champion of this Tour.
