oger Espejo and Hon. Carlos Perdomo commit to working for the people of Caribbean ShoresThe United Democratic Party has begun the process of selecting standard bearers to represent the Party in the next General Elections. That process began on Sunday December 5 as the Caribbean Shores Constituency held its convention.

The polls opened at ten in the morning and ran seven hours in a cool and overcast day during which the support for the UDP was shown in a robust manner. City Councilor, Roger Espejo challenged incumbent Area Representative Hon. Carlos Perdomo for the seat. It was a well contested convention with both candidates placing their best efforts forward. Even before the opening of the polls, the contestants brought out the voters to begin the process of voting promptly at 10. From all appearances both candidates did their best as they met the Party-faithful in the division, greeted them and gave the last words of encouragement before the votes were cast. It was a steady flow of voters at the Trinity Methodist School with occasional lull periods; nonetheless, the Party-faithful came out to the polls.

While both parties did their best to bring out the supporters, in the end it was the incumbent Hon. Carlos Perdomo who would retain his constituency. He secured 695 votes while Espejo garnered 385. It was a significant victory for Perdomo, who in speaking with the Guardian, expressed his gratitude to the people in Caribbean Shores for their continued show of support to himself and the United Democratic Party. He added that now he must continue the work for the people of his division. Espejo, for his part, explained that he will now fall in line and support Hon. Perdomo in whatever manner he can to ensure that the United Democratic Party secures another victory in Caribbean Shores in the 2013 General Elections.

The conventions will continue on Sunday, December 12, in the Orange Walk East constituency where incumbent Hon. Marcel Cardona will be taking on two challengers, Orlando ‘Landy’ Burns and Denni Grijalva. Convention time is slated to run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Louisiana Government School in Orange Walk.
