San Pedro Pirates win first game of 2019 Opening Season

The defending national football champions of Belize, the San Pedro Pirates FC, won its first game of the 2019-2020 Premier League of Belize Opening Season competition when it edged out the winless FF Valley Pride FC out at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga Town by the score of 2-1.
The defending champions San Pedro Pirates FC was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Henry Villa scored the first goal of the game in the 12th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead.
The defending champions San Pedro Pirates FC, took that lead well into the second half of the game, before the host team FF Valley Pride FC was able to make it onto the scoreboard when Richard Cacho scored the equalising goal in the 68th minute of play to tie the score at 1-1. However, that was short-lived as Facundo Garnier scored his team’s go-ahead goal in the 69th minute of play for the 2-1 victory.
At the Placencia Field in Placencia Village, Verdes FC won over the host team Placencia Assassins FC by the score of 3-2.
The host team Placencia Assassins FC was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Ashton Torres scored the first of his two goals in the 7th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. However, the visiting Verdes FC was able to tie the score at 1-1 when Edwin Bernal scored the equalising goal in the 27th minute of play. Verdes FC then took a 2-1 lead when Mariano Landero scored the go-ahead goal for his team in the 40th minute of play. At the end of the first half of the game the visiting Verdes FC enjoyed a 2-1 lead.
In the second half of the game, Verdes FC continued where it left off at the closed of the first half when Krisean Lopez scored his team’s third goal of the game in the 52nd minute of play for a 3-1 lead. In host team Placencia Assassins FC was able to cut the deficit when Ashton Torres scored his second goal of the game in the 94th minute of play which was in injury time.
At the sound of the long whistle it was indeed a 3-2 victory for Verdes FC which allowed them to maintain a lead in the top of the standings.
And at the MCC Grounds in Belize City, the BDF FC won over Altitude FC by the score of 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored by Carmilo Sanchez in the 17th minute of play.
On Saturday 24th August, at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, Bandits Sport defeated Wagiya Sporting Club by the score of 3-1.
The visiting Wagiya Sporting Club was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Carlton Thomas scored the first goal of the game in the 39th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead.
It was not until the second half of the game that Bandits Sport was able to make it onto the scoreboard when Georgie Welcome scored the first goal of the game for his team in the 56th minute of play to tie the score at 1-1. Andres Makin then untie the score when he scored his team’s second goal of the game in the 79th minute of play for a 2-1 lead. That lead when extended when Georgie Welcome scored his second goal of the game in the 88th minute of play to give his team the 3-1 victory.
The competition will continue this coming weekend with four more games.
