Police United early leaders in Premier League Opening Season

The Premier League of Belize 2018-2019 Opening Season Competition resumed in earnest last weekend, after taking a break to accommodate Scotiabank CONCACAF play and the Football Federation of Belize international obligations.

On Saturday 11th August at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the defending champions the Belmopan Bandits SC blanked its nemesis Verdes FC by the score of 1-0.

The only goal of the game was scored by Hector Martinez in the 62nd minute of play to give his team the victory.

On Sunday 12th August, at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the Police United edged out the visiting Altitude Assassins FC by the score of 2-1.

The host team Police United FC was the first to score when Shanty Castillo scored the 1st goal of the game in the 13th minute of play to give his team an early lead. The lead was further increased when Carlton Thomas scored his team’s 2nd goal of the game in the 31st minute of play to give it a 2-0 lead.

However, the visiting Altitude Assassins FC was able to make it unto the scoreboard when Dion Moguel scored his team’s only goal of the game in the 41st minute of play to cut the deficit into half.

The first half of the game ended 2-1 in favour of the Police United FC.

The teams in the second half of the game did not give up any more goals the rest of the way and at the sound of the long whistle, it was indeed a 2-1 victory for the Police United FC squad.

And at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga Town, the home team Wagiya FC defeated the visiting BDF FC by the score of 3-1.

The host team Wagiya FC was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Jonard Castillo scored his team’s 1st goal of the game in the 24th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. However, the lead was short-lived as the visiting BDF FC was able to tie the score at 1-1 when Michael Myvette scored the equalising goal in the 38th minute of play.

In the second half of the game, the host team Wagiya FC turned up its offence which allowed it to tally two more goals in the game. Byton Chavez scored his team’s go-ahead goal in the 78th minute of play to give his team a 2-1 lead. That lead was further increased when Highking Roberts scored his team 3rd and final goal of the game in the 85th minute of play for the 3-1 victory.

The competition will continue this coming weekend with four games on the schedule.
