17 Summer Programs Countrywide Benefit from BEL Donations & Employee Volunteerism

Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) has donated over ,000 to 17 summer programs in communities across the country. Staff are also volunteering in July and August to assist with the various programs.

The Museum of Belize Culture Industry Coconut Workshop promoted the local “Cultural Industry” by teaching children how to produce different art and products using coconut.

At the Community Policing Youth Cadet Corp Camp in Punta Gorda, police trainers instilled discipline, respect for country and flag, hard work, dedication and shared the benefits of structure in children’s daily routines.

The National Institute of Creative Arts (NICH) Summer Program offered children ages 3 to 12 a comprehensive experience which included arts and craft, dance, music, drama and poetry.

The Belize Council for The Visually Impaired (BCVI) engaged children who are irreversibly blind with various activities including computer, arts and craft and reading.

The Light and Peace Summer Camp held at the Yabra Green Basketball Court in Belize City focused on the development of young athletes by training them in patience and discipline of team work in Basketball in an effort to equip them with handling challenging situations in their respective environments. BEL volunteers assisted with basic basketball training techniques.

City Boys Summer Camp, Future Football Camp and Eagles U-20 Football Program, taught children and youths from several communities in Belize City football techniques as well as respect for others and teamwork through football as an alternative to negative influences in their respective environments by introducing avenues for their growth and development through sports.

Belize Methodist Protestant Summer Camp incorporated faith and fun into arts & craft, sports, singing, music and other teen activities with the aim of helping youths grow in faith. Likewise, Machaca Summer Camp in the Toledo District offered children and youths a safe place to grow and have fun by incorporating sports, Bible Worship, and arts and crafts. At the end of the camp, children were given a back pack with school supplies, and other crafts to take home.

The Growing the Future Summer Program is a preparatory course for children entering a new grade level from Infants up to Standard 6. Children were taught Phonics, Reading, Writing, Mathematics and Arts & Craft. BEL employees volunteered and assisted in Belmopan.

Ignacio Cacho Library Summer Program in Dangriga introduced the art of reading to children and youths with the aim of generating care and love of reading.

Other programs supported by BEL that are ongoing in August include the Museum of Belize’s Ti-tai Weaving Summer Program, Belize Softball Federation Summer Youth Camp, National Youth Orchestra Music Camp, Youth Creative Talent Educational Summer Program and Warriors FC Rush Football Training Camp.
