4 residents of the Orange Walk District continue to receive treatment at the Northern Regional Hospital after they were injured during  shooting at a home in Trial Farm Village.

Police say that at around 7:48 p.m., on Tuesday, June 26, officers visited the Northern Regional Hospital where they found 25 year-old Nazario Herrera; his common-law wife, 26 year-old Diana Ack, 19 year-old Victor Ku, and 20 year-old Monico Gomez being treated for gunshot injuries. They are all residents of Trial Farm Village.

Police investigation has revealed that the couple and their 2 friends were inside their yard, which is located on San Narciso Street, in Trial Farm. They were socializing when a gunman, reportedly dressed in black clothing, opened the gate of their fence, and as soon as he spotted the group, he started firing gunshots at them before running off. Some residents, wanting to remain unnamed, say that the shooter fled the scene, and may have gotten into a vehicle that was waiting nearby.

Nazario Herrera suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks area, and Victor Ku was injured to the left foot. The most serious injuries were inflicted to Monico Gomez and Diana Ack who were both injured in the chest. They arrived at the Northern Regional Hospital in a critical condition, and the doctors there have been trying to save their lives.

At this time, not much is known as to the possible motive for this shooting, but residents of Trial Farm say that this couple has had some bitter disputes with their neighbors, who have refused to provide any information to the press. Those neighbors told the media that they would prefer not to comment on this incident, in the hopes of avoiding any sort of quarrels.

Of note is that the couple’s 3 young children were inside the house at the time of the shooting, and some reports suggest that Diana Ack had to protect one of her children from the wild spray of gunfire.

Persistent reports to the Guardian suggest that there has been a bitter rivalry between neighbors in the village which is fueled by control of weed turf.
