On Sunday, February 25, 2018 at about 3:30 a.m., police responded to a road traffic accident at Camp one Shipyard Village in the Orange Walk District. Upon arrival, they observed a white Dodge Caravan with the front damaged and crashed into a tree. No one was in the van at the time and as a result, the officers made checks at the Northern Regional Hospital.

There, they learnt that Silvan Mencias, a 19-year-old laborer of August Pine Ridge, was involved in an accident and succumbed to his injuries. Initial investigation revealed that Alvin Reneau, a 25-year-old driver of August Pine Ridge, was driving from Guinea Grass towards Shipyard when he lost control of the van and crashed into some trees. Mencias, who was seated in the passenger seat, received injuries to his head. Four other persons who were inside the van sustained minor injuries. They were treated and released from the hospital. Police investigation continues.

On that same date at about 2:18 p.m., police visited an area between miles 82 and 83 on the Phillip Goldson Highway where they observed the lifeless body of Justavo Patt, a 26-year-old laborer of Ranchito Village, on the right side of the road with apparent head and body injuries.

Initial investigation reveals that Carlos Vargas, a 34-year-old resident of Orange Walk, was driving his Black GMC Terrain SUV in the direction to Corozal Town when he hit Patt who was riding his bicycle on the left side of the road. As a result, Patt succumbed to his injuries. Police are investigating.
