Mayor Darrel Bradley and Councilors officially completed their term in office on Wednesday, February 28, 2018. To celebrate this occasion, there was an official handing over ceremony held at the Belize City Hall. There, the mayor handed over responsibility of the administration to the City Administrator, Candice Burke.

The mayor and councilors have spent the last 6 years of them serving the city, but have dedicated the last month in a period of transition. In the words of Bradley, the ceremony is one that is necessary as it allows him, in the capacity of mayor, and the other councilors to give account of their stewardship. The day was a day for quiet reflection and a day to say thanks as according to Bradley, he spent most of his day thanking his council, managers, directors, other members of their staff of 432, the 67,000 residents, and all those that contributed to the success of the council for their hard work.

While the majority of the council will be vying for their candidacy in the March 7, 2018 election, Councilor Michael Theus will not. As a result, Bradley highlighted him and his accomplishments in the council. Theus, who worked in the capacity of Economic Development and Small Business, was instrumental in the renovation of the BTL Park as well as other projects. He also was responsible for the Economic Development Unit at the Belize City Council.

Each councilor as well as Bradley was awarded a plaque for their contributions and work while Bradley handed over the flag to Burke.

In his last few words, Bradley expressed his pride and satisfaction that he and his council worked hard saying, “It cannot be said otherwise that we left the city better than we got it”
