We have authority over illness. In the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 10 verse 8, Jesus tells us, his followers, to “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.”
One of the most misunderstood doctrines of Christianity is about where we draw the line between God’s part and our part in establishing things on earth. The Bible teaches us in the book of Genesis, that as soon as God completed the earth, He handed the keys over to us. So from that moment His part was to fill us with His wisdom and our part was to use it to do things on earth exactly as He had already planned it. But when man sinned and cut the cord we no longer had Him to show us what to do. So we began to do things our way, or the devil’s way, which made everything descend into the chaos we have on earth.
God in His mercy gave us a second chance by restoring authority to us through Jesus. However for lack of knowledge we sit back waiting for God to do things He has given us the power to do. So we pray until we are exhausted, but nothing happens because God doesn’t take back what He has already given us. The verse above tells us about all the things which Jesus gave us authority to overcome. In the book of Acts we see how the apostles applied it, they did not pray but just spoke to the situation. A famous example is when Peter healed the crippled man at the beautiful gate.
Acts chapter 3 verse 6 declares: “Peter said ‘I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene—walk.’ ”
The Name of Jesus is our symbol of authority. When we attach the name to anything which is in the list in the above verse, then it must surrender and leave. Just like it did for Peter. Begin to practice your authority for now on.
Remember: You can use the power and authority from Jesus Christ to overcome!
