Word reaching the Guardian Newspaper indicates that there will be an emergency meeting of the PUP’s Central Executive following comments made on Tuesday of this week by one of their deputy party leaders.
It is no secret that Julius Espat has no regard for Johnny Briceno or his leadership style and that became painfully obvious on Tuesday during an appearance by Espat on Louis Wade’s Plus TV morning show. During the entire time he was on Espat minced no words in attacking Briceno’s leadership. Oftentimes Espat was blunt and outright disrespectful to Briceno. In one instance he said that Luke Espat was doing the work of the PUP and he would prefer to have him in the national assembly. He went on to say that the executives of the PUP is made up of bench players. That is persons who were not elected are making decision for the party.
With that single comment he threw down Briceno’s leadership and dragged it in the mud. It must be recalled that indeed the executive of the PUP is composed by individuals who are handpicked by Briceno and in some instances this was done contrary to the constitution of that party.
Now Espat’s fate at the leadership of the PUP may well be under question as his comments simply do not sit well with the executive and Briceno himself as he directly attacked them, pointing them out as the lame ducks that they are.
