The Ministry of Education is currently investigating an incident at the Solid Rock Academy in Dangriga involving the assault of a teacher by a parent. The Ministry of Education strongly condemns and cannot condone such actions by the parent, or by any parent. The assault of the teacher by the parent was an emotional response by the parent. The Ministry of Education therefore believes that the response of all concerned should be governed by reason and not emotion. It is important that parents consider the consequences of their actions for themselves as well as for their children. The Ministry of Education remains committed to working with all stakeholders to address the issue of violence in our society and to protecting our schools. The Ministry will be engaging in dialogue with various stakeholders (teachers, parents, managements) to discuss strategies that will help to reduce violence in our society and schools. The Ministry of Education is currently revising the Education Act and Handbook of Policies and Procedures and will be holding national consultations on the proposed revisions.
