On the night of Saturday, May 2, police responded to reports of three men flashing a firearm near a Chinese shop on Douglas Jones Street. The men were seen on bicycles and police chased after them past the traffic lights at the Cinderella Plaza and caught up with two of the men on Newton Barracks. The other managed to slip away. The two men have been identified as brothers, 18-year-old Alrick Carcamo and 24-year-old Emmerson Neal of #46 Allan Pitts Crescent.

A search of Carcamo led to the discovery of a 9mm pistol which contained five live rounds of ammunitions. A search of Neal led to the discovery of a silver UT Starcom Smart cell phone. The brothers were escorted to the Queen Street Police Station. Upon there arrival at the police station, they came across 24-year-old Freeman Smith who was just making a report on a robbery that took place earlier that night at about 9:00 p.m. near B.T.L. park on Newton Barracks. Smith identified the brothers as two of the three men who approached him and robbed him of his silver Smart phone valued at $108 and $3 in cash.

On Monday, May 4, the brothers appeared before Magistrate Dorothy Flowers to answer to a charge of robbery. The younger brother, Carcamo, was also charged with one count of keeping unlicensed firearm and one count of keeping unlicensed ammunition. In court the brothers told Magistrate Flowers that they were beaten while in police custody and showed injuries on their bodies that they said were done at the hands of police officers. The Magistrate requested that the brothers be escorted to seek medical care and adjourned the case until June 5. Since it was an offense committed with a firearm, bail could not have been granted. Therefore, the brothers will be remanded at the Hattieville Prison until their next court appearance.
