The United Democratic Party has delivered an almost countrywide victory!
The results began to come in very early, as early as 8 P.M. and the first to come in was Punta Gorda the work of the UDP in that municipality delivered all 7 candidates, making Fern Gutierrez the new mayor of the town with a two to one margin. Next it was Benque, there had been absolutely no doubt that Benque Viejo del Carmen would also be delivered , and so it was that Heraldo Ramcharan defeated his PUP opponent by a margin of almost 800 votes. Hon. Erwin Contreras has now delivered that municipality for 6 consecutive times. Can anyone say SIXPETE!
Thereafter it was an academic exercise, Corozal it was Hilberto Campos who has now secured a 4th consecutive victory. In Belmopan Khalid Belisle is now the new mayor. Dangriga it is Francis Humphreys who will be doing all the work that the PUP mayor was unable to do. In San Pedro Daniel Guerrero repeats as mayor. In San Ignacio/Santa Elena, Earl Trapp, who served as councilor elevates himself as the mayor of that municipality with a victory as well.Â
Belize City, continues to be UDP, with the infrastructural work that Mayor Darrell Bradley has put in here, there was never a doubt that he would have secured a victory here. Interestingly enough, he bested all candidates in the Freetown division, which is the stomping ground for PUP party leader Francis Fonseca. He won above all the other UDP candidates being the only candidate to have won in that division. Mayor Bradley will now continue with the work that he began three years ago, he will now ensure that the city is more developed than ever before.
