In late 2009, then E. P. Yorke Teacher, Cordel Gonzalez, was charged with two counts of carnal knowledge of a female child, then 14. He ended up losing his position with the institution after a video tape with him having sex with the minor student surfaced and investigations led to him being charged.

On Tuesday January 20, Gonzalez, saw two counts of carnal knowledge end in up in a nolle prosequi, the first such case to be entered by the DPP’s officer for 2015.

On Tuesday, before Justice Adolph Lucas in the Supreme Court, Gonzalez case ended in nolle prosequi and he was set free. The reason for today’s nolle prosequi is becuase the victim, then 14, now 19 has been living abroad and has difficulties travelling back to Belize.

Gonzalez was charged with two counts of carnal knowledge. Allegations made against him were that on November 1, 2009, he had sexual intercourse with the minor student and again on November 27, 2009.
The incident is said to have occured at a home.  The school found out first about the sexual allegations after a video tape surfaced with him and the student.  That’s when the school informed the child’s mother and the mother took her daughter to the police station where they reported the matter to the police and Gonzalez was charged criminally.
