On Tuesday, September 22, the Habet Group of Companies announced the winners of the 2nd Penta Paint up the Place Competition. The competition started in May of this year and it targeted students in high schools and upper division of primary schools.
Carlo Habet is the Communications Manager of the Habet Group and he said that the purpose of the project is to “restore the philanthropic nature of the Habet Group”. He said that there were almost 250 entries and of that amount 40 pieces were chosen for an art exhibit. That exhibit takes place at the Image Factory until Wednesday, September 30.
Of the final 40 pieces, 12 were chosen for a 2010 calendar for Habet customers. The first place winner was Rebekah Penner from Belize Christian Academy. She said that she entered the competition to express herself. Rebekah said, “Leading up to the competition I had different emotions going through me at once. Therefore, I decided to bring out my emotions in the form of a painting.” She said that she did not enter the competition to win. Rebekah Penner received $500 for winning the competition. The other 11 students whose art pieces will be on the 2010 calendar received $100.
In addition to receiving $500, Rebekah Penner’s school will also be painted courtesy of Penta Paint. Carlo Habet says that he expects the program to grow next year.
