A single gunshot ended 30-year-old Deon Marvin Meighan’s life around midnight on September 21st. Meighan had been out celebrating the Independence Day with friends at a nightclub on Princess Margaret Drive. He was at Cinderella Plaza walking home with three of those friends, two men and one female, when he came under attack. His assassin emerged from the direction of the Chon Saan Palace on Kelly Street. He is described as light skinned, about 5′ 8” in height with a
shirt over his head to mask his identity.
He slowly rode up on a bicycle and pulled out a gun which he aimed directly at Deon Meighan. He pulled the trigger and fired three shots. One of the shots hit Deon Meighan above the right eye causing him to fall on the ground, he died on the spot. His killer raced from the scene and escaped. Two persons have been detained pending further police investigation. Meighan’s family can’t think of why he was killed.
His sister Shana Meighan described him as loving and humble and that he troubled no one. He was working at the Conscious Youth Development Program’s housing project in the Lake Independence area.
