Oliver Peters,37, is on remand at the Belize Central Prison after he was charged with the murder of his uncle, 44-year-old Thomas Ferguson Sr.

Peters allegedly stabbed his uncle in the chest on Saturday, December 7, 2013, after a bitter land dispute. According to Ferguson’s wife, the two have been arguing over a parcel of land that Peters had been living on along with his uncle. Reports are that Peters wanted his uncle to give him the entire parcel of land but he refused since he intended to give it to his children.

On Monday, December 9, 2013, Peters was initially charged with attempted murder, dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm. However, on Sunday, February 22, 2014, more than 2 months after being stabbed, Ferguson died due to his injuries while receiving treatment at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Peters was escorted back before Magistrate Dale Cayetano where the charge was upgraded to murder. No plea was taken due to the nature of the offense and Peters was ordered to be remanded until his next court appearance on April 23, 2014.

Peters seem to not be showing any remorse for his action as he posed for his picture to be taken by reporters at court.
