The Belize City Senior Female Softball Competition continued over the last week with two more games, which both involved the defending Belize City Softball Champions Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL) at Rogers Stadium.
On Friday June 22, 2012, Telemedia edged its nemesis, Mirage Lady Rebels by the score of 4-3. Telemedia batting in the top of the 1st inning scored the 1st run of the game when centre-fielder Lydia Cacho, who opened with a base-on-balls, advanced to second base on an infield hit and later scored on shortstop Sherette Vernon’s fielding error.
Mirage Lady Rebels batting in the bottom of the 2nd inning was able to score a run that tied the game at 1-1 when third baseman, Lisa Jones reached first base on second baseman Kayle McFadzean’s fielding error, then advanced to third base on catcher, Ashanti Anderson’s single to centre field and then scored on first baseman, Sharette Jones’ infield grounder.
In the top of the third inning, Telemedia scored 3 more runs when pitcher, Mary Flowers’ single to left field, advanced to second base on a base-on-balls, went to third on first baseman, Ruth Lamb’s sacrifice and then scored on left-fielder, Aludy Hyde’s error, which also allowed Barbara Cadle, who reached on a base-on-balls to score. The 3rd and final run of the inning was scored by third baseman, Martha Rhys on shortstop, Elaine Humes’ single to centre field.
Meanwhile, Mirage Lady Rebels scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning when shortstop, Sherette Vernon’s double to left field advanced to third base on a wild pitch then scored on shortstop, Elaine Humes fielding error. Humes’ throwing error also allowed third baseman, Lisa Jones, who had reached earlier on a fielder’s choice, to score her team’s third and final run of the game.
On the line for BTL were 4 runs on 6 hits and 3 errors, while Mirage Lady Rebels scored 3 runs on 9 hits and 4 errors. Of the 7 errors that were committed 5 were made between shortstop, Sherette Vernon and Elaine Humes.
The winning pitcher was Mary Flowers and the losing pitcher was Lanisha Jones.
The competition then continued on Thursday June 21, 2012, when Mary Flowers and Telemedia defeated Hurricanes by the score of 16-1. Mary Flowers tossed 4 innings of no-hit balls during the game for the win.
Telemedia scored 9 runs in the 1st inning, 1 in the 2nd inning and then 6 more runs in the 4th inning on 9 hits.
The winning pitcher was Mary Flowers and the losing pitcher was Delsie Lizama.
