On Wednesday October 6, Arthur Young was granted bail in the sum of ten thousand dollars. Although the court prosecutor argued that Young had violated his Supreme Court bail granted to him in February of this year, after more than three months on remand since his return home from a Mexico jail, Young was granted bail in the sum of ,000 plus two sureties in the sum of ,000 each.
Bail was set late on Wednesday evening in Court #2 before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer. In court Prosecutor Sgt. Hector Rodriguez informed the court that Young should not be granted bail since the record shows that he has violated his bail granted through the Supreme Court on a firearm offense. Despite the arguments, Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer noted that while that may be so, she was not in a position to deny bail to Young since he has already spent his 90 days on remand. She then went ahead and offered him bail but added conditions.
Young, who claims the police have been trying to “eliminate” him, asked the Senior Magistrate what would happen with his bail if he should be pulled in by the police innocently and charged with no grounds or substance behind it. The Senior Magistrate told him that he must try his best to avoid the police after he meets bail and try his best not to be arrested again as one of his conditions to his bail today is that he must not be arrested and charged for any other offenses until this case is disposed of.
In March/April of this year, Young along with Errol Haynes was accused of having a number of illegal material at a home in the Vista Del Mar area. Although Young was never found in the house at the time of the police search of the house where they claim they found illegal materials, Young was charged jointly with Haynes.
For this case, he is due back in Court #2 on November 4.
Young also has a firearm offense before Court #7 where he is due back before that court on October 14. According to the court records, when Young was granted bail through the Supreme Court for the firearm offense his bail conditions were that, he must not be charged with any other offenses; that he must report to the police station every Monday between 9a.m. and 5p.m.; that he must appear in court on every adjournment. According to Sgt. Rodriquez, Young had been violating all of those conditions.
Arthur Young also has a failure to report as a deportee charge pending in Court #6 that he pleaded not guilty to earlier this year before he was arrested and charged for the Vista Del Mar incident in March/April along with Haynes. He is yet to be brought before the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on that matter.
Earlier this year, Young and Haynes both beat a murder wrap after the2007 murder of Calvin Young, the son of well known businessman, James young was killed in his apartment in the Belama Phase 1 area of Belize City.
