On Saturday, September 4, Former Secretary General of the People’s United Party, 47-year-old Carlos Espat, was found lying face up and motionless inside the bathroom tub of his Albert Street apartment. His brothers, Mark and Phillip Espat discovered the body and called the police. Police visited the cream in colour four storey concrete building at the corner of King and Albert Street and escorted the body to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead by a medical officer at 12:30 p.m.
The death was initially believed to be a sudden death, but a Post Mortem Examination revealed that Espat died from “Broncho Aspiration due to head and chest injuries due to blunt trauma”. The case is now classified as murder since foul play was clearly involved.
