Can’t keep your eyes off the children

Last week there were two extremely disturbing reports made against grown men who have decided to take advantage of children. In one instance a man was caught by police sleeping with a 13-year-old; allegations are that he had been having sexual intercourse with the child since she was ten. He’d pay her 20 dollars a week for her to work for him in his store. The report is made even more disturbing given the fact that the child reportedly, on various occasions, had sex with the man as his wife was at home using the bathroom.

The second report which surfaced last week is where a grown man is accused of sexually molesting a 7-year-old boy. This week again there is another report of a man being caught in the act, having sex with a 14-year-old on a bridge in the Spanish Lookout area. In the case of the 7-year-old boy being molested by a man, it’s almost incredible to even consider that there would be someone who would commit such a crime, but it seems that this is the Belize we are now living in. Children fall prey to sexual predators very often and everyone wonders how that is possible. The issue of children being victims to sexual abuse has been made that more concerning as at times the children fall prey to their close family relatives; friends of the family, and individuals who lure them in with small gifts.

It does not matter how it is that a child is taken in, the warning for all who care for children is to never keep their eyes off the children. They must at all times be supervised and taken care of. In these days of deviants and predators it is excessively important to always know where the children are, who they are with, and what they are doing. It takes but a few minutes of neglect for a child to fall prey to these despicable characters who, it would seem, are everywhere. The end result is the child becoming scarred for life and in most cases not being able to lead a normal life. The abuse that the children live at the hands of grown men usually haunts them for the rest of their lives.

The bottom line here is that parents and caregivers should at all times know where their children are if they are to be protected from being taken advantage of. After all it is the responsibility of adults to care for and nurture children. As for those, like those mentioned earlier, they should not be given the opportunity to sully the world with their presence. They are the lowliest of humans and as such should be treated with scorn- as a scourge to our society.
