Twin sisters Ashanti and Ashonti Carr are making their family and the wider Belizean community proud with their recent athletic and academic achievements. The young women, who have been engaged in track and field as well as other sporting disciplines for almost a decade now, have begun to reap the benefits of their labor. They have both been enrolled in the University of Technology in Kingston, Jamaica on athletic scholarships and have recently gone back to continue their studies there. The much needed assistance came in part through the Belize Sport Council and the Rogers Stadium Physical Cultural Sporting Club to get them back to Jamaica. The Carr sisters received tickets for their flights, traveling, spending, housing, and grocery money, laptops, and other essentials.
Given the current circumstances, with sports having taken quite a long pause due to the COVID-19 situation in Belize, their trainings have proven undoubtedly difficult, but the sisters say that they were dedicated and encouraged enough to power through. In most instances, they trained twice a day to maintain their standards. For now, their main focus is to continue pursuing their educational goals, while maintaining a balance of their athletic objectives, with the hope of being selected to participate in competitions during this year.
