Two persons were decapitated in an area between mile 48 and 49 on the Northern Highway in the village of Carmelita in the Orange Walk district after a traffic collision.

At around 11:30a.m. on Wednesday April 1, a Jeep Comanche travelling at high speed heading towards Orange Walk Town experienced a right front tire blowout and slammed head on into a parked heavy duty cargo truck that was parked on the right side of the road. The impact was so severe that the three persons travelling in the vehicle died instantly. The driver 33-year-old Atilio Ulloa and 20-year-old Cecilia Melbar were both decapitated on impact while the vehicle’s other passenger 24-year-old Mark Anthony Pacheco died shortly after the collision.

Upon doing their investigations, police found a loaded 9 millimeter Ruger piston inside the vehicle along with other personal documents. Preliminary investigations suggest that speeding contributed to the accident.
