Chairman of Elections and Boundaries Commission Alberto AugustBELIZE CITY, Wednesday, May 19, 2010:
   
On invitation from the Commonwealth Secretariat, Mr. Alberto August, Chairman of the Elections and Boundaries Commission of Belize is in Ghana, Africa where he is attending the Commonwealth Conference for Heads of Election Management Bodies.
 
The three-day conference began on Wednesday, May 19 at the Alisa Hotel in Accra with opening remarks by H.E John Mahama, Vice President of Ghana and Dr. Afari Gyan, Chair of Ghana’s Electoral Commission.
 
The fifty two participants, drawn from Commonwealth countries worldwide, will be discussing matters such as: a) Creating a Commonwealth Network of National Election Management Bodies, b) Providing for and enduring the Importance and Independence of Election Management Bodies, c) Building confidence in the Voter Registration Process, d) Managing the Electoral Environment, e) Elections and the Media, f) Enhancing Electoral Accountability, g) Handling Complaints and Appeals and h) Electoral Transparency and relations with stakeholders including political parties, civil society, the media and the public.
 
The conference ends on Friday, May 21 and the Chairman is scheduled to return to Belize on Sunday, May 23.
