On Monday, December 7, the Republic of China (Taiwan) handed over a grant of 1.1 Million dollars to the Ministry of Health and Wellness. The grant comes under a “Project for strengthening Medical Imaging Systems in Belize” and other medical material. Handing over the grant was the Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Belize, Remus Li-Kuo Chen.
The donation was made possible through a project agreement. A part of this is a grant in the amount of BZ$1,100,000 being funded by the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan). The grant will be used to assist in the improvement of medical imaging services and to procure digital imaging equipment (CR) and image system (PACS) for the public hospitals in Belize.
The donation also included an emergency medical material kit (medicine and other portable equipment) to aid victims of the recent floods, as well as 5,000 isolation gowns and 30,000 surgical masks for the medical service providers and first responders fighting COVID-19 in Belize.
The Ministry extends its gratitude to the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for their continuous support and commitment in the public health field and acknowledges the strong collaboration in these difficult times during the pandemic. This united front undoubtedly continues to be a stimulus in fighting for a healthier and sustainable world.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness continues to work diligently in ensuring that the country remains prepared and equipped for any impact from COVID-19.
