In a celebratory fashion, hundreds of residents of the Corozal South East constituency gathered at the junction of the Corozal and Sarteneja Roads as the official ground breaking was held for the beginning of the reconstruction of the road. The 47-kilometer road will include the construction of two new bridges at the Laguna Seca Area and the Pueblo Nuevo Ferries. All told, there will be one hundred million dollars invested in the area to upgrade the road to paved standard. It will be completed with all its internationally required safety features and will be built to withstand climate change.
Residents of the area have had to suffer impossible road conditions both when it is dry as well as when it rains. For nearly 60 years of representation by the People’s United Party, they had never done anything to alleviate conditions of the road. It is only now, under a United Democratic Party Government that the conditions of the road will be improved.
It is expected that with the completion of the road, there will be faster travel in an out of Sarteneja, Chunnox, Copper Bank and surrounding communities. Access to healthcare will be greatly improved as well as the development of the area as a prime tourism destination will also be achieved.
