The family of 20-year-old Jahvin Charles Wagner, a resident of Dangriga, is once again battling with grief and tragedy. He becomes the third man to have died from gun violence this year. His brother was murdered several weeks ago, and several months
before that, someone shot and killed his dad.

Police say that at around 6:50 p.m., on November 18, 2019, they responded to a report on Commerce Street, Dangriga Town, that there was a shooting incident. When they arrived, they found Wagner’s lifeless body on the sidewalk. Someone shot him to death right on
the street where his family’s home is.

What police have been able to gather so far is sometime after six p.m. that evening, Wagner was having a conversation with another man when a gunman quickly approached them. Before they could react and try to get to safety, that assailant fired a single
shot at Wagner, which caught him to the left side of his forehead. After firing the shot, the assailant ran off on foot and escaped before anyone could pursue him. That injury quickly claimed Wagner’s life, and so when the cops arrived, the only thing they could do
was to process the crime scene for evidence and then transfer his body to the Southern Regional Hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival by one of the on-duty doctors.

At this time, it is unclear why Wagner was targeted, but he is the third man from his family to be killed by gun violence this year. On July 12th, 2019, his step father, 45-year-old
Edwin Felix Nazario, was shot and killed while he was in the parking lot of the Southern Regional Hospital. A gunman came on a motorcycle and shot him several times before riding off. Then, on September 28th, 2019, 21-year-old Jebran Wagner, aka “Suku” was shot and killed while he was attending a house party on Coney Drive in Belize City.

Commenting on the murder of Jahvin, this family’s third deceased loved-one, Chester Williams, the Commissioner of Police, told the press, “We sympathize with the mother. She must be going through a really tough time, having lost her common-law husband, then a son, and then a second son to gun violence. I could just imagine what she is going through. I don’t think no woman or no person deserves to suffer what she is suffering
now.”

Commissioner Williams assured that police are doing the best they can to try and solve his murder, and he is asking the public to offer whatever information they can to help them solve the case. Police have increased their presence in Dangriga Town, and they intend to try and de-escalate tensions that appear to have taken root in that southern town.

The Police Commissioner also indicated that their investigation is suggesting that Jahvin Wagner’s murder is somehow connected to his father and brother’s killing. He reportedly received threats to his life, and he moved out of Dangriga for some time before he went back.
