Verdes FC and Bandits Sport maintains lead in Premier League competition

The Premier League of Belize commenced its second half of the 2019-2020 Opening Season Tournament over the last weekend with four games on the schedule.
On Friday, 20th September, three games were played across the country. At the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the host team Bandits Sport and the defending champions San Pedro Pirates played to a 0-0 draw.
At the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village, Altitude FC defeated the visiting Placencia FC by the score of 3-1.
The host team Altitude FC was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Ronaldo Vergara scored the first goal of the game in the 17th minute of play. The lead was increased when Miguel Garcia scored the second goal of the game in the 32nd minute of play for a 2-0 lead.
The first half of the game ended in favour of the home team Altitude FC by a score of 2-0.
In the second half of the game, the visiting Placencia Assassins FC, was able to make it onto the scoreboard when Ashton Torres scored in the 71st minute of play to cut the deficit into half.
Meanwhile, the Altitude FC offence came roaring back with a goal of its own to extend the lead to 3-1 when Jefton Apolonio scored the final goal of the game in the 90+3 minutes of the game to give his team the victory.
Meanwhile, at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga Town, the host team Wagiya SC and FF Valley Pride FC played to a 1-1 draw.
The visiting FF Valley Pride FC was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Carlos Lino scored the first goal of the game in the 83rd minute of play. However, that lead was short-lived when Wagiya’s Elroy Kuylen scored the equalising goal in the 90+ minute of play to tie the score at 1-1.
Then on Sunday 22nd September, at the MCC Grounds, the BDF FC and the co-leader of this year’s competition Verdes FC played to a 3-3 draw.
The home team BDF FC was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Jaren Lambey scored the first goal of the game in the first minute of game to give his team a 1-0 lead. The lead was increased when Jesse August scored the second goal of the game in the 16th minute of play. That lead was taken into the half time.
In the second half of the game, the Verdes FC offence was able to break through the BDF defence, when Mariano Landero scored the first of his three goals in the 51st minute of play via a penalty kick to cut the deficit. Camilo Sanchez then made it a 3-1 game when he scored the third goal of the game in the 54th minute of play via a penalty kick. Mariano Landero took matters into his own hands when he scored his second goal of the game in the 54th minute of play via a penalty kick to make it a 3-2 score. In the 86th minute of play, Landero made it a 3-3 game when he scored the equalising goal for his team.
The competition will continue this coming week with four more games on the schedule.
