The Standard Bearer for the People’s United Party in the Cayo Central Division, Alex Balona, appeared in Magistrate’s court in San Ignacio on Monday July 22nd where he was formally charged for common assault. Balona was charged after Bobby Montero made a formal complaint to police on Sunday July 21 that Balona had spat on him.

The complaint was filed after an incident in San Antonio village in the Cayo district in which members of both the PUP and UDP became involved in a shoving faceoff at the village council elections. During the melee Balona himself got involved and in defending himself, hawked up spit and aimed it at Montero. The entire episode was captured on tape as onlookers videotaped the incident with their cellphones. The event went viral leaving many to wonder if this is the type of behavior that one can now expect from the People’s United Party as they desperately try to maneuver the political landscape that is seeing them gaining absolutely no grounds in the village council elections.
