A 5-year-old boy and his 53-year-old grandmother have succumbed to their injuries after the boy’s father, 35-year-old Samuel August Sr., drove a backhoe into their home. At around 2:10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, police visited the Young’s residence on Faber’s Road where they saw a cement bungalow house with damages to the front portion.
More horrifying was the sight of 5-year-old Samir August lying motionless in the debris, bleeding from his head, next to 53 year-old Louise Young, his grandmother. Police investigations revealed that August Sr. drove the backhoe into the Young’s residence, causing extensive structural damages. At home at the time were Samuel August’s 3 children: 13 year-old Samuel August Jr.; 9 year-old Sam August and 5 year-old Samir August; as well as Louis Young; 77 year-old Adelia Young; and 13 year-old Britney Craig.
But he did not stop there; he then drove the machine into the next door house, the home of Carl Butler, a third structure, and a van, property of Atlantic Bank Limited. After committing the act, August Sr. attempted to flee the scene but was shot by Butler and pursued by police and finally subdued.
Samir, Young, and Britney Craig, were all transported to the KHMH but as previously mentioned, Samir and Young both succumbed to their injuries. Britney Craig is reportedly in a critical state. Police say that after damaging the young’s residence, Craig tried to flee, and she ran over to the home of Marilyn Burgess. Samuel August Sr. reportedly chased her down with the backhoe, and he ended up slamming into the fence, and damaging a wooden structure in the yard.
The bodies of Samir and Young are at the KHMH morgue awaiting post mortem examinations. August Sr. is in a stable state, likely under police guard. Investigations into this matter continues.
While there are no official reports, it is understood that Young had recently gotten custody of August Sr.’s three children and it might have been for that reason that he committed the crime. Again, it is not known for certain but it is rumored that August Sr. killed the mother of his children 2 years ago.
