Fire at Dorothy Menzies Children’s Home

There was a fire at the Dorothy Menzies Children’s Home located on St. Thomas Street in Belize City. That fire reportedly claimed the two-storey building’s kitchen. According to police reports, police responded to the fire just after 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, 2018. The officers saw a two storey building engulfed in flames,

Martina Fuller, a 40-year-old of a Belize City address, reported that at about 4:50 p.m. while she was sitting on the porch, she smelled smoke coming from the kitchen area. As a result, she attempted to extinguish the fire.

Initial investigation revealed that Leonie Williams, a 41-year old Belizean assistant cook, was preparing supper and forgot to turn off the stove. No one was injured and the value of the damages is unknown. Police are investigating.
