On Sunday, August 6, 2017, police responded to the scene of an accident at the Crooked Tree Village junction at Mile 31 on the Philip Goldson Highway. There they saw the body of a Creole female lying on the right side of the highway.

The victim identified as Alma Flowers, a 19-year-old Belizean student, had injuries to the head, right shoulder, and left foot. She was pronounced dead by Dr. Flores at the KHMH.

Initial investigations revealed that she alighted a bus and was about to cross the highway when she was knocked down by a vehicle travelling from Orange Walk to Ladyville.
