Two weeks of rumors and speculation came to an end on Tuesday February 3 when Marco Tulio Mendez, PUP Area Representative for the Orange Walk East constituency, like so many others before him did the perp walk to the police station in Orange Walk town.
Flanked by his attorney, Richard ‘Dickie’ Bradley, who must have been taken off guard since he did not even have on his tie; his nephew Karim Berges and his other attorney Andrew Bennett, Tulio Mendez made his way to the police station where he was formally charged. No member of the media was allowed to enter the station as it had been turned into a court room and due to the sensitivity of the case. After an hour inside the station Mendez’s attorneys emerged. As they were speaking to the media who was awaiting outside, Mendez made a quick getaway with nothing to say to the media.
The attorneys were not very forthcoming, all they would say was that they would put up a ‘formidable defence’ and that Mendez had been charged for sexually assaulting two girls one of them on two occasions and the other on four occasions. Bradley went on to say that the allegations step as far back to 2005. By our information, we have learnt that the victims are now 17 and 18 years of age. That would have the allegations against Mendez having been involved with the little girls when they were as young as 7 and 8 years of age.
After the arraignment Mendez’s case was adjourned to April 13th after he secured a 5 thousand dollar bail.
