A Non-Governmental Organization, now operating in seven countries around the World, wants to expand its operations in Belize. Founder of For the World, Robert Keith Froom, met with his Belizean counterparts at Rumors Resort Hotel at mile two and a half on the Benque Viejo Road on Sunday evening of this past weekend.
At this meeting Robert Froom admitted that his organization is highly dependent on volunteerism. A representative from Calla Creek, who was present also shared that For the World has been helpful to his village in the past.
Just last week, For the World was able to organize both locals and international visitors to re-paint the bus stop at the entrance of Calla Creek, which is a village near the Belize-Guatemala border.
For The World has also recently made known the names of the recipients of High School Scholarships for 11 students from the Cayo District for the 2014-2015 School Year. These lucky scholarship receivers include Byron Escalante, Deyline Paz, Elian Pineda, Jaire Manzanero, Jashua Quewell, Jefre Pineda, Gillian Portillo, Karimah Arellano, Nuri Galicia, Shanelle Cano and Stephanie Zetina.
But what For The World now needs are volunteers, who would serve as mentors and monitor the scholarship program in Belize. For the World is also now looking to fill in several volunteer positions to focus on health and education in the rural areas of Belize.
Founded in 2004, For the World, also now operates in Guatemala where it manages a language school in the Peten Area.
“We try to partner with organizations in Belize, U.S and Canada,” says Robert Froom.
He also says that before a project is started in any area, For the World first consults with the villagers, because they are most qualified in knowing about their needs.
However; For the World is currently being required to obtain a broker and fill in much paper work when attempting to bring in computers intended for rural schools into Belize says Robert Froom. This has resulted in For the World directors deciding that medical teams, computers and other assets be directed to Guatemala and other parts of the World, instead of Belize.
Perez Mariela, a volunteer For the World and a villager from San Jose Succotz says that she has seen the work that the NGO has done in Guatemala and is determined that Belize also now gets its share of development projects.
