A house in Santa Elena Town in the Cayo District has been partially destroyed by fire. Olga August, 56 year old Belizean domestic of Cemetery Road in Santa Elena, was attending a Kingdom Hall Convention in the Belize District at about 8:20 am on Sunday of this past weekend, when she was informed that her house was on fire. Apparently, someone had left the house on Cemetery Road in Santa Elena, without disconnecting the clothes iron. The house was not insured and the value of the destroyed items is uncertain at this time.
Members of the community have come out to assist Olga August in her hour of need. The San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council has already sent a vehicle to retrieve the burnt items. The church brothers of Jehovah Witnesses gathered on Tuesday near the former residence of Olga August to provide support. Engineer Juan Polanco from the Building Authority at the San Ignacio Town Council was also present on Tuesday of this week to assess the integrity of the burnt building and discovered that a section of the concrete building can be salvaged.
