Taking some five months to put together and prepare, a “Journey” art exhibition was opened on Saturday of this past weekend at the San Ignacio and Santa Elena House of Culture. The exhibit brings together a compilation of pencil drawings by Belizean born artist Stacy Rodriquez, daughter of Maurice and Lydia Rodriquez from the Cayo District.

In 2009, Stacy Rodriquez placed her pencil to paper after being told that she could not draw. Drawing at first from magazine images, she surprised herself at her ability to make perfect sketches. It was then that she took off, using her vivid imaginations to draw profiles and giving it to her friends. Her perfect drawing of former Director of Mary Open Doors Anna Silva took her some four hours to do. To get into her comfort zone, Stacy Rodriquez would place on an earphone and listen to music, with her drawings describing real life situations such as human sadness, triumphs and challenges. After all the work is done, Stacy Rodriquez says that the effects of her drawings are “self-soothing.”

A young artist like Stacy Rodriquez has found it beneficial to spread her wings and has done so with the Image Factory, where she will continue promoting her drawings on June 13th 2014. By then her drawing of a woman sitting at a port by the sea, which shows the abilities of doing lines of parallax and placing intensity of shades in a sunlit horizon may have already been sold. Her images are being sold with ten dollars down, with complete payments at the end of the month. Stacy Rodriquez can be contacted at 662-4007 or by e-mail at stacey.creativedesigns@gmail.com

Belize’s youthful artist, Stacy Rodriquez, told us that we should not be afraid to express ourselves in whatever way; especially if it’s the Lord’s calling. She would like to thank her sponsors for “Journey” such as the San Ignacio and Santa Elena House of Culture, the Belize Natural Energy Charitable Trust, Fuego Bar & Grill, Shell Gas Station, Air bender Yoga Studio, Computer Excel, Highway Glass Shop as well as her supporting family and friends.
