A Piano-Soprano-Guitar Gala Concert was held last Friday night at the Cayo Welcome Center in San Ignacio. The free concert was brought together by the local House of Culture in San Ignacio in partnership with the Mexican Embassy.
At the piano was Melanie Lopez and with guitar was Victor Celis, who last year had done a solo trip to Benque and to the cultural capital – Dangriga. While the main singer, Christina Woodward, has been exercising her vocals cords since being eight years old, only to perfect it during a six year experience at an art school in Mexico. All three Mexicans come from the Yucatan Peninsula and thus their choice of 19th Century Composers from Yucatan was clearly evident. With little interruption, Christina Woodward sang pieces from European Composers and popular Spanish Songs like ‘Nana’ and ‘Cancion.’
The Mexican trio also performed on Saturday night of this past weekend at the Mexican Embassy on Newton Barracks in Belize City.
With the performance in the ‘Un Viejo de Ida y Vuelta’ now completed, Belize is left with other activities that foster Belize-Mexico Cooperation. Both Mexico and Belize also normally share technicians, exchange students and partner in health. Also, both the Belize Defence Force and Police meet with their Mexican counterparts at the border at least once a month to exchange valuable information.
“We are trying to recuperate our societies from the Organization of Crime,” says Mexican Ambassador Mario Velasquez, who also celebrated in the musical concert in San Ignacio Town last week.
