Scene from on the stage of the Belikin FestThe Belikin Bash has established itself as one of the most attractive events of the September celebrations over the past few years. This year was no different.

From Saturday, September 12, to Tuesday, September 15, the Memorial Park hosted thousands of Belizeans for the festive Belikin Bash. Sunday saw one of the bigger crowds as there was none stop entertainment provided by a long list of performers; including, the winner of the 2009 Battle of the Bands, Gilharry 7. Also pumping up the crowd was the Youth Connection Band from Orange Walk. While the bands took breaks, music was provided by DJ Bones and DJ Dalla. The performer of the night was rising Belizean star, Mr. Program, who performed a couple of his pieces including his hit track “See I Rise”.

Though the crowd showed up to the event, there were two huge factors of disappointment. For the youths, one huge disappointment was the very visible absence of mechanical rides which has been a staple of the event. The second and most ironic factor of disappointment was seen in the faces of all beer lovers as they made their way to the bars for the first time. Their eyes opened wide in shock as they found out that the price of a Belikin Beer at the Belikin Fest was a hefty three dollars. Even some local shops sell Belikin Beers for less. One guy said laughing, “I went to the bar, ordered five beers and handed five dollars to the bartender.” He is one of many who have come to know the Belikin Bash to be an event where beers are sold at cheap prices. However, that was not the case this year.

The three dollar beers did not slow down the demand for the product however as beer lovers drank in pure disgust of the prices.
