Robber left ID at the scene

Jason Pop

Investigators in a case of robbery, which took place in southern Belize say that 21-year-old Jason Pop is the man responsible in this incident. They came to this conclusion after Pop allegedly left his ID behind near the scene of the crime. The robbery took place on Friday, July 10 at Anne’s Store located in Independence Village, Stann Creek. The armed robber walked into the store and made off with $2,000. The shop’s proprietor, Jun Liu, reported to police that he was inside his store when a Maya man entered the shop. He held the right waist of his pants as if though he was holding a gun and made off with the cash. Investigators say that a search of an abandoned building in a nearby lot led to the discovery of the clothes, which the robber was believed to be wearing. In the pants pocket, they found Pop’s ID and charged the mason for robbery.
For this, Pop was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Friday, July 17, 2020. He appeared unrepresented before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford and was read a single charge of robbery. Despite his identification being found near the scene of the robbery, Pop pleaded not guilty but due to the nature of the offense, was denied bail. Pop was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until September 25 when he is expected in the Independence Magistrate’s Court.
