Pizza man porter killed in robbery

Orin Velasquez

A candlelight vigil was organized on Tuesday July 28 in Ladyville, following the murder of well-known pizza house owner, Orin Velasquez. He was at his business place, Breda O’s Pizza, in Ladyville at about 7:18 pm when he was shot by an assailant.
Investigations by police have determined that Velazquez, 38, was in his business place when an assailant made his way into the yard where the business is located by jumping a fence. The gunman then made his way to the rear of the business and while Velasquez and his 14-year-old son were closing the shop and making their way out they were attacked. Velasquez put up a fight and was shot multiple times in the process. Shortly thereafter, a man of dark complexion was seen running from behind the building after, which several more shots were heard.
When police responded they found Orin Velazquez with several gunshots to the body. He was transported to the KHMH where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. His son was uninjured.
Velasquez had been operating his business for about three years while at the same time being a porter at the Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA). He and his wife had invested in it and was in the process of expanding it when he was killed. The Ladyville community was in shock following the killing as Velasquez was known to be a community-oriented individual, often assisting in many social programs. He was known to sponsor sporting activities and was generous at his pizza parlor. The Ladyville community held a candlelight vigil in his honor where hundreds of residents came out to show support. Among those in attendance was Hon. Patrick Faber and COMPOL Williams. A $2,000 reward is also being offered for any information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible.
