The Civic Center in Belize City was vandalized over the weekend. Police have detained five young men ranging in age from 13 to 16 years old. Reports indicate that a Special Patrol Unit team was in the area near the Civic Center over the weekend when they noticed smoke coming out of the building. Officers made their way into the building and found the young men in various parts of the building, including an AC vent and a manhole on the roof of the building.
Checks inside the building found that a number of fire extinguishers had been expended. There were scuff marks on the wooden basketball court and for good measure, there was evidence that the young men had been swimming inside water reservoirs located at the top of the building.
