Armed Attack Claims Life of Salvadoran Businessman

Early on Wednesday, June 23, a married couple became victims of an armed attack which has claimed the life of the husband. At around 8:15 a.m., police received the report and responded to the scene in St. Margaret’s Village. There they saw a white Isuzu NPR truck parked on the left side of the road. Responding officers spoke to Celfa Ondina Chavez de Garanza, a 41-year-old Salvadoran businesswoman, who told them what had happened.
According to the victim, she and her husband, Vicente Orlando Garanza Orellano, a 55-year-old Salvadoran businessman of Valley of Peace, were traveling to Bird Walk community in St. Margaret’s Village when they were stopped by a roadblock consisting of six male persons. She noticed that all six of these persons were armed and three of them went to the passenger side of the vehicle. Fearing for her life, she handed over about $5000. While being searched, she heard three shots before the culprits ran off, making good their escape. Upon check on her husband, she noticed that he was shot. Police observed the deceased with apparent gunshot injuries to the left side of his body. Police are investigating.
